Is there really a difference between the premium films and the cheaper ones?

Keep seeing people swear by certain brands like it's a religion and I'm trying to figure out if the gap is actually as big as they make it sound. The price difference between some films is like double and I don't know if that's because one is genuinely superior or just better marketed. Did anyone here go budget first and regret it? Or maybe you went premium and honestly can't tell what all the fuss was about? I'm not trying to cheap out but I also don't want to pay extra just for a logo if the performance is basically the same.
